W. F. Harris Lighting introduced the world to the first light fixtures manufactured from high-impact polycarbonate (GE LEXANŽ), providing one of the first rustproof, vandal resistant floodlights to the lighting industry in 1970. Originally designed for coastal properties which are subject to corrosive damaging salt air, humidity, and severe climatic conditions such as hurricanes and tornadoes, many of these fixtures have outlived their original buildings and are still attractive.
W. F. Harris Lighting is the outgrowth of a vision by W. F. Harris, its founder and President. Over the Company's history, a pattern of steady growth has developed. The Company today has representation through sales agencies, distributors, and showrooms in the Continental United States, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. International representation includes Canada, and the Caribbean basin.
In addition, some of the Company's more universal products can be purchased online from Rexel, the world's largest electrical distributor. The coastal regions of the Carolinas made an ideal proving ground for developing rustproof lighting products. Working closely with specialists at General Electric Plastics, tool makers, plastic injection molders, and end users, the first rustproof, non-corrosive floodlight was introduced by Harris in 1970. Working closely with Underwriters Laboratories resulted in the development of UL Safety Standards for Plastic Lighting Fixtures. The special features of the lighting fixtures were designed to meet the increasing demands for quality and beauty by architects, engineers, contractors, and consumers. Introduction of the first rustproof floodlight in the coastal region met with success.
One year later, Harris went to market with a vandal resistant and rustproof lighting fixture featuring an unbreakable LEXANŽ polycarbonate lens. The introduction of successful new models since 1970 has produced a wide range of products, each with numerous options to satisfy the growing needs of our industrial, commercial, and residential customers. Our fixtures are also used in a broad range of construction including public, educational, and private buildings. They are also used in recreational, correctional, and military facilities.
Developing innovative lighting products has earned the company recognition as a leading manufacturer of rustproof, vandal resistant lighting fixtures; of having one of the largest offerings of rustproof emergency lighting fixtures in the lighting industry; and of having developed the first Underwriters Laboratories Listed polycarbonate floodlights.
In 2003, the Company added a unique development to its marketing program. A proponent of traditional business practices, Mr. Harris felt that these time-tested and proven techniques could transfer successfully to the internet. He accomplished his latest innovative solution when launching the new, patent-pending internet initiative that brings the manufacturer's products to consumers while maintaining participation by representatives and distributors who are important marketing components of a sale. |
